Yield 6-8 servings

Tator Tot hotdish made without cream of soup from a can! This easy hotdish is full of flavor and packed with beef, veggies, cheese and a homemade sauce then topped with lots of tots. Easy weeknight dinner to feed a crowd.

Creamy Sauce:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Add ground beef and diced onion to a large frying pan over medium-heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook beef and onions for about 8-10 minutes. Right before beef is fully cooked, mix in minced garlic, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and dry onion soup mix. Cook for about another minute or until beef is no longer pink.
  3. Evenly spread beef mixture into bottom of a 9x13 inch (3 quart) baking dish. Then evenly cover beef with frozen green beans and corn.

Creamy Sauce:

  1. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, bring chicken stock to a light boil. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, soy sauce, and worcestershire sauce. Gradually add flour to milk mixture and whisk until flour is dissolved.
  2. Add milk and flour mixture to chicken stock while whisking fast to combine until sauce bubbles and becomes thick, about 3 minutes.
  3. Evenly pour sauce mixture over the vegetables in baking dish, and lighlty mix together beef, vegetables and sauce.

Finish assembling and bake:

  1. Spread frozen tator tots over the top of the sauce.
  2. Cover with tinfoil and bake for about 50 minutes until sauce is bubbling. Remove tinfoil and sprinkle 2 cups shredded cheese over the top of the tator tots, and return to oven without tinfoil and bake for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted and tator tots are crispy.
